Amidation using silanolates

The preparation and structures of siloxanediol derivatives has been reviewed29,184 but some representative examples of reactions are given below. Two general methods have been used to make metal siloxides from silanols one involves the direct reaction of a silanol with the metal derivative, usually an amide, alkoxide, halide or alkyl (to give amine, alcohol, HX or alkane byproducts respectively), while the second involves the preparation of a simple alkali metal derivative which can then be used as a siloxide transfer reagent for further synthesis. Only the direct route will be considered here. Two of the most useful siloxide transfer species, (MOPh2Si)20 (M = Li or Na), are... [Pg.717]

Use of alkylamide phases, in which alkyl chains are attached to the silica surface via an alkylamide group, reduces interactions with free silanols, by an internal masking mechanism. Residual silanols interact by hydrogen bonding with the embedded amide groups and thus become less active toward analytes. The embedded polar amide groups lessen the hydrophobicity of these phases compared to that of C18 bonded phases prepared from the same silica. Improved peak shapes of ionizable compounds were reported and this stationary phase was successfully used under IPC conditions to analyze streptomycin and its dihydrostreptomycin derivative in food... [Pg.65]

Equation (2) has also been extended to other commonly used kinds of RP LC columns (a) older alkyl-silica columns made from impure (type A) silica, (b) columns with polar groups such as amide or carbamate, which are either embedded into the column ligands or used to end-cap unreacted silanols after a conventional bonding, (c) cyano columns, (d) phenyl columns, (e) columns with... [Pg.323]
