Alprazolam cardiovascular

Signs and symptoms of BZ withdrawal are similar to those of alcohol withdrawal, including muscle pain, anxiety, restlessness, confusion, irritability, hallucinations, delirium, seizures, and cardiovascular collapse. Withdrawal from short-acting BZs (e.g., oxazepam, lorazepani, alprazolam) has an onset within 12 to 24 hours of the last dose. Diazepam, chlordiazep-oxide, and clorazepate have elimination half-lives (or active metabolites with elimination half-lives) of 24 to greater than 100 hours. So, withdrawal may be delayed for several days after their discontinuation. [Pg.838]

Alprazolam has no significant anticholinergic or cardiovascular effects, but in almost all studies reporting adverse effects, alprazolam-induced sedation was comparable with or greater than that of the tertiary amine TCA. In one comparison with desipramine, drowsiness led to motor vehicle accidents in 2 of 16 outpatients taking alprazolam and required discontinuation in another 3 (212, 213). [Pg.128]

Cardiovascular A case report of a 23-year-old man who presented with sinus bradycardia and second degree Mobiz Type I AV block after ingestion of 42 alprazolam tables, risperidone, acetaminophen and hydrocodone [1 ]. The exact quantity, dose and ingestion times were unknown. The AV block resolved 5 h after his presentation, he refused further follow-up. This case suggests the possibility of potential arrhythmogenicity associated with benzodiazepine exposure. [Pg.54]
