Allyl alcohol propoxylation

Thus, in Figure 4.12 the thin layer chromatograms of PO homopolymers, triols and diols are presented. One observes that the polyether diols are mixtures of polyether diols and monols and the polyether triols are mixtures of polyether triols, diols and monols. The polyether monol was obtained by propoxylation of the allyl alcohol. [Pg.90]

A very subtle effect of the oligo-polyols functionality is seen in the case of propoxylated polyether polyols, due to the presence in oligo-polyol composition of a polyether monol as a consequence of the rearrangement of PO to allyl alcohol during anionic PO polymerisation (see section 4.1), with this structure ... [Pg.544]

Longer reaction times are usually required for propoxylation reactions due to the preference for lower reaction temperatures necessary to maintain product color and avoid troublesome side reactions such as elimination of a terminal alcohol to generate allyl ethers. Propoxylation reactions can be selectively accelerated at lower temperatures with the use of a double metal cyanide catalyst. The catalyst is extremely sensitive and easily deactivated by moisture and conventional groups I and II catalysts, and will not effectively catalyze ethoxylation reactions. [Pg.27]

Allyl propoxylate monomer can be prepared by reacting allyl alcohol with propylene oxide in the presence of a basic catalyst. The reaction yields a mixture of... [Pg.149]

Allyl Alcohol And Allyl Propoxylate Homopolymers and Copolymers [9] Homopolymers of allyl alcohol and allyl propoxylate have been prepared by free radical polymerization. It has been found that allyl propoxylate is considerably more reactive than allyl alcx)hol. As showed in Table 2, the homoix)lymerization of allyl propoxylate yields 75% of polymer, while allyl alcohol gives only 28% of polymer under similar polymerization conditions. In the copolymerization of allyl alcohol and allyl propoxylate, the polymer yield increases with the decrease of the ratio of allyl alcohol to allyl propoxylate. [Pg.150]

Poly(allyl propoxylate) is soluble in all of the commonly used solvents listed in the Table 3. Poly(allyl alcohol) is insoluble in most solvents but alcohols. The solubility of the copolymers of allyl alcohol and allyl propoxylate increases with increase of the allyl propoxylate units. The difficulty of preparation of poly(allyl alcohol) and its poor solubility have limited its application, however, poly(allyl propoxylate) has showed increased potential as a highly hydroxyl-fimetionalized polymer. [Pg.150]

Safety Allyl alcohol is highly toxic and flammable liquid. It is corrosive to skin and is a severe eye irritant. It is also a high inhalation, skin absorption, and ingestion hazard. It can cause damage to the liver and kidneys, cause lacrimation, tremors, excitability, convulsion, and even coma. Allyl propoxylate has... [Pg.155]

Homopolymerization of Allyl Propoxylate The procedure is the same as the Homopolymerization of Allyl Alcohol except allyl propoxylate instead of allyl alcohol is used. [Pg.156]

Copolymerization of Allyl Alcohol and Allyl Propoxylate The procedure is the same as the Homopolymerization of Allyl Alcohol except a mixture of allyl alcohol and allyl propoxylate is used. The comonomer feed composition of allyl alcohol and allyl propoxylate is varied to achieve copolymers of different compositions. [Pg.156]

Copolymerization of Styrene and Allyl Propoxylate The procedure is the same as in Copolymerization of Allyl Alcohol and Styrene except allyl propoxylate instead of allyl alcohol is used. Various styrene and allyl propoxylate copolymers can be made by changing the ratio of styrene to allyl propoxylate. [Pg.157]
