Allergy to Corticosteroids

Allergy to corticosteroids is extremely rare. Clinically, several types of symptoms supposedly of an allergic nature, have been related to the administration of corticosteroids. [Pg.698]

Reports of contact allergy to topical medicaments containing sodium metabisulfite are rare (9). In two cases, a topical corticosteroid formulation that contained sodium metabisulfite (Trimovate cream) caused contact allergy patch tests were positive with both sodium metabisulfite and Trimovate cream (10). [Pg.3216]

Nevertheless, iodine contrast agents must be used with caution in patients with thyroid disease and in those with known hypersensitivity to iodine or allergies to food and other drugs. Premedication with corticosteroids is recommended for such patients. Cautious use of contrast agents is indicated in patients with epilepsy, hepato-renal syndrome, severe respiratory disease and diabetes. They should not be administered to patients who are taking metformin for Type 2 diabetes. Interaction between metformin and iodine contrast agents can increase the risk of lactic acidosis. [Pg.265]
