Mechanism The reaction of and A -steroids with nitrosyl fluoride to form ni trimines is best discussed in conjunction with the nitrosyl chloride reaction leading tothe5a-chloro-6 -nitro steroids (33). Since nitroso alkanes are oxidized with nitrosyl chloride to nitro alkanes it is believed that 5a-chloro-6j5-nitro steroids are formed in this way from an initially formed 5a-chloro-6 -nitroso adduct. The same is true for nitrosyl fluoride up to the stage of the nitroso fluoride (56). In contrast to the plethora of reactions between DIB and -containing compounds, BTI has so far limited applications. Tertiary nitroso compounds are stable and are generally reduced similarly to the corresponding nitro compound, but somewhat more easily. The reduction of mono-and dihalogenated nitrosoalkanes also goes analogously to that of the corresponding nitro-alkanes thus 2-chloro-2-nitrosopropane [42] gives acetoxime on reduction (pH3, E — 0.5V) in 98% yield ...

Echte Nitroso-Verbindungen sind demnach nur die Nitroso-aromaten, deren Hydrierung bereits ausfuhrlich in ds. Handb. beschrieben ist (Bd. X/l, S.1163 Bd. X/2, S. 788) und tertiare aliphatische Nitroso-Verbindungen (einschlieGlich a-heterosubstituierte sek. Nitro-alkane), iiber deren katalytische Hydrierung wenig bekannt ist.
