Alkali fumes

Special insulation and coating of stator windings and overhangs are sometimes essential to ensure protection against tropical weather, fungus growth, moisture, oil abrasives, and acid and alkali fumes. Powerhouse treatment is one insulating process that ctin meet all these requirements (see Section 9..T). [Pg.183]

As a result of the larger flues and the restricted surface area per unit of gas passed, regenerators employed with this type of furnace exhibit much lower efficiency than would be realized with smaller flues. In view of the large amount of iron oxide contained in open-hearth exhaust gas and the alkali fume present in glass-tank stack gases, however, smaller checkerbrick dimensions are considered impractical. [Pg.55]

This book does not deal with the fundamental chemistry of rubber and its reaction mechanisms with acids, alkalies, fumes and gases prevalent in, and handled in, process industries. Such a treatise can undoubtedly be found in research work, papers and books published, which are rich resources enabling corrosion engineers to correlate science with facts and to act accordingly to solve problems of corrosion. Instead, this book deals with the specialty subject of protective rubber lining and its applications in various industries, highlighting technological aspects of manufacture and application. [Pg.173]

Phenylstibinoxide is the only unsubstituted oxide of its class known. Whilst it readily combines with acids, it is almost insoluble m alkali. Fuming nitric acid causes it to inflame, and hydrogen sulphide in the presence of ammonia converts it into the sulphide. If an ammo-group is introduced into the nucleus the product becomes less stable and oxidises in the presence of alkali, tartaric acid increasing the rate of oxidation substitution m the ammo-group, however, increases the stability. All the monoarylstibinoxides are solids. [Pg.211]

It should not be used with strong alkalies, fuming acids, polar solvents, amines, ketones, and esters. When used with strong alkalies, it stress cracks. Refer to Table 2.26 for the compatibility of PVDF with selected corrodents. Reference [1] provides a more detailed listing. [Pg.87]
