Aliphatic halogen compounds carbon tetrachloride

For one-carbon halogenated aliphatics, HOMO decreases as the number of chlorines increases. HOMO is a measure of the ability of a compound to donate electrons (i.e., to act as a nucleophile or undergo oxidation) therefore, an increase in chlorine numbers increases the reactivity of the molecule. The dataset is chloromethane, dichloromethane, chloroform, and carbon tetrachloride. HOMO represents 99.90% of the variance in the linear regression equation. The probability of getting a correlation of -0.9995 for a sample size of four is less than 2%. [Pg.162]

In the reactions with aliphatic hydrogen-containing compounds such as hexane, and halogen compounds such as carbon tetrachloride, hydrogen and halogen respectively are abstracted from these compounds these are reactions characteristic of active free radicals. [Pg.230]

Organic solvents, which induce CYP2E1, are comprised of a few broad chemical classes, including hydrocarbons such as benzene and toluene, halogenated aliphatic compounds such as carbon tetrachloride and dichloroethane, aliphatic alcohols such as ethanol, and hydroxyethers such as 2-methoxyethanol. Industrial solvents are frequently mixtures of several compounds. The most frequent solvent-associated toxicity occurs from occupational exposure. A number of organic solvents have been examined for their effects on the immune system, and the requirement for their bioactivation to produce immunotoxicity has been well established. [Pg.787]
