Assay algal

Laboratory algal assays for monitoring the toxicity of an allelochemical are very useful, due to the ease and rapidity with which the organism can be cultured and their responses measured. They also require less equipment, space and time of the researcher. [Pg.48]

Because of the time and labor involved in algal assays, FRP (0.45 or 0.2 pm) has often been used as a surrogate for readily BAP, and TP (which includes the particulate, condensed, and organic phosphorus components) as a measure of potentially BAP. However, a number of studies have shown that neither FRP nor TP correlate well with algal assay-measured BAP. This may be because FRP tends to overestimate the true orthophosphate due to hydrolysis of labile organic and condensed species. Use of ultrafiltration through a low molecular mass filter prior to measurement of reactive phosphorus has been proposed as better estimator of BAP than other available chemical methods. [Pg.3714]

The 6 rice herbicides (Bensulfiironmethyl, Imazosulfiiron, Simetryn, Dimethametryn, Pretilachlor and Cafenstrole) were used for the algal assay. [Pg.117]

By use of model substrates and inhibitor studies, an esterase that is reactive in unbuffered sea water as well as in the disrupted algal tissue from C. taxifolia was identified which mediates cleavage of the acetyl residues of caulerpenyne (54) [121]. After complete deacetylation, oxytoxin 2 (64) appears as an unstable end-product. Due to the lack of an appropriate assay procedure for labile metabo-... [Pg.203]
