Algae type cultures

Fd is present in higher plants, algae, photosynthetic bacteria, and also in animals. It is an acidic protein with a pi of 4 and contains an [2Fe 2S]-type cluster with the rather low redox potential of about -410 mV at pH 7. The [2Fe 2S] cluster in Fd provides the site for one-electron redox change. It may be noted, however, that when algae are cultured in a medium lacking iron, a flavin-mononucleotide-binding redox protein called flavodoxin is produced as a replacement.

A mono-specific culture of a test organism (e.g., a single micro-algal species) which is devoid of other species of microorganisms (e.g. other types of algae) and also free of bacterial contamination. Volume 1 (3,7,8). 

Culture of Daphnia Daphnia is a common zooplankton species (the water flea) that can be found in many lakes and ponds. It can also be purchased from scientific supply companies. Daphnia is easy to grow in lake water with a supply of algae in any type of jar (>500 ml). 

With all types of cultured pearl, the host oysters and mussels must be tended during the cultivating process. They are regularly lifted from the water and cleaned to remove algae and barnacles that may have accumulated. When the appropriate time has passed for the pearls to have reached their optimum quality, they are harvested. The oysters or mussels are opened and the pearls are extracted.
