Airtight construction

If outdoor air can easily leak into and through homes, both comfort and energy-efficient performance will be difficult to maintain. Today, off-the-shelf technologies that contribute to airtight construction include a variety of house wraps, sealants, foams, and tapes. In energy-efficient homes, builders use these tools to seal the myriad of cracks... [Pg.204]

Super Insulated Houses - A type of house that has massive amounts of insulation, airtight construction, and controlled ventilation without sacrificing comfort, health, or aesthetics. [Pg.420]

Air-Filter Types Air filters may be broadly divided into two classes (1) panel, or unit, filters and (2) automatic, or continuous, filters. Panel filters are constructed in units of convenient size (commonly 20- by 20-in or 24- by 24-in face area) to facilitate installation, maintenance, and cleaning. Each unit consists of a cleanable or replaceable cell or filter pad in a substantial frame that may be bolted to the frames of similar units to form an airtight partition between the source of the dusty air and the destination of the cleaned air. [Pg.1608]

Applied to a pneumatic tyre with no separate inner tube. An air-impermeable lining, usually of a halogenated butyl, is applied to the inside of the casing. The bead construction is such as to ensure an airtight lit on the wheel rim. Inflation is done through a valve fitted directly into a valve hole in the rim. [Pg.67]

First, I proposed the construction of a special airtight booth on top of a flatbed trailer. The booth would contain instruments capable of measuring the dose inhaled through each volunteer s mask in real time. To insure reliability of the measurement, we would need two identical spectrophotometers. These devices already existed, but hadn t yet been field-tested. The Aerosol Branch at Edgewood had assured us, however, that they could modify and set them up as required without much difficulty. [Pg.142]

For in situ x-ray diffraction measurements, the basic construction of an electrochemical cell is a cell-type enclosure of an airtight stainless steel body. A beryllium window, which has a good x-ray transmission profile, is fixed on an opening in the cell. The cathode material can be deposited directly on the beryllium window, itself acting as a positive-electrode contact. A glass fiber separator soaked in liquid electrolyte is then positioned in contact with the cathode followed by a metal anode (3). A number of variations and improvements have been introduced to protect the beryllium window, which is subject to corrosion when the high-voltage cathode is in direct contact with it. [Pg.239]

A manual microfiltration apparatus (Fig. 3) has been made by the present authors for use with a CRC thimble. The apparatus is constructed of stainless steel with neoprene rubber seals. A hollow base holds a test tube for collection of the filtrate, if required, and has a connection for a vacuum pump. The top, which fits onto the base with an O ring, has on its upper surface a well to hold the CRC thimble and a support for the removable filter cover. The cover has a probe that is inserted into the solution to be filtered. When negative pressure is applied to the vacuum connection and the CRC thimble is held in place by the filter cover, the airtight seals enable solution to pass through the probe. [Pg.308]

A glovebox is an airtight chamber that provides a sernisterile still air environment in which to conduct transfers. Typically, it is constructed of wood, with a sneeze window for viewing... [Pg.17]

An airtight room is an essential feature of the mushroom growing environment, preventing insects and spores from entering as well as giving the cultivator full control over the fresh air supply. During The construction or modification of the room, all cracks, seams and joints should be carefully sealed. [Pg.63]

According to requirements for anti-explosion, high temperature resistance and airtight performance, the fireproof anti-explosion airtight system should be composed of fireproof antiexplosion airtight doors and walls. The doors should be made of 16 Mn steel and the walls should be constructed by C30 concrete. [Pg.387]
