One of the most important factors is the intercooler cooling water, which has a profound effect on air manifold temperature. Use of a closed-cycle air-cooling system will increase the cooling water temperature with de-rating of output. In addition, the radiators can add significantly to the parasitic load. The altitude above sea level at which the engine will be located also affects the output due to... 

Reloading of the tube with fresh charge occupied most of the cycle time, which limited the operating frequency of the device. This intermittent-detonation device - which consisted of three assemblies air manifold, fuel injector, and detonation tube — did not appear promising as a thrust producing mechanism because of its low operating frequencies...

The battery was assembled from VRLA modules of a gelled-electrolyte design, which had excellent deep-discharge capabilities. The modules had lead-coated copper terminals and bus bars, a status indicator that warned if the SoC dropped below 20%, and an internal air manifold for thermal management. The facility contained 64 modules connected in series to produce a 384-V, 1500-Ah battery. 

Figure 3.5 shows a 40 ft (12.2 m) long car-hearth in a 17.5 ft (5.3 m) high fiber-lined furnace with high-velocity burners at top and between the piers. Automatic furnace pressure control makes it possible to use top flues. Drilled square air manifolds shoot curtains of air across the flue exits as throttleable air curtain dampers for furnace pressure control. 

A Gllppard air manifold complete with six electrically operated valves. Is bolted to the central pillar and supplies air to the systems which rotate with the carousel. Several of the valves are fitted with flow restrictors to allow speed control of the Items they supply e.g. feed cylinders.
