Aglaia odorata

The pyrrolidine bases 59 and 60 were independently determined in two species of Aglaia. They were named odorine (59) and odorinol (60), after Aglaia odorata Lour. (103, 104), and roxburghilin (59) and hydroxyroxburghilin (60), after Aglaia roxburghiana Miq. (705) the compounds were demonstrated to be identical (104).

Two amidic pyrrolidine bases, odorine (2 R = H) and odorol (2 R = OH), have been isolated from the leaves of Aglaia odorata Lour. Their structures have been settled by n.m.r., i.r., and mass spectral analysis. The cinnamoyl residue in each was readily detected by the mass spectral fragmentation and, in the case of odorinol, by acid hydrolysis, which afforded cinnamic and 2-hydroxy-2-methyl-butanoic acids. ... 

In contrast, it was reported that piriferine, isolated from Aglaia pirifera (Meliaceae), and odorine and 5 -epi-odorine isolated from Aglaia odorata and Aglaia roxburghiamy respectively, showed the ability to overcome resistance in vinblastine-resistant KB cells [2],... 

Odorinol (12) (Fig. 29.3) from Aglaia odorata (Meliaceae), a cinnamic acid and isovaleric acid diamide, has antileukemic properties (Nahrstedt, 1985).
