By contrast, HLW from LWR fuel reprocessing is stored ia cooled, well-agitated, stainless steel tanks as an acidic nitrate solution having relatively few sohds. Modem PUREX flow sheets minimise the addition of extraneous salts, and as a result the HLW is essentially a fission-product nitrate solution. Dissolver soHds are centrifuged from the feed stream and are stored separately. Thus the HLW has a low risk of compromising tank integrity and has a favorable composition for solidification and disposal (11). [Pg.207]

Batch Crystallization Batch crystalhzation has been practiced longer than any other form of ciystaUization in both atmospheric tanks, which are either static or agitated, as well as in vacuum or pressure vessels. It is still widely practiced in the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industry or in those applications where the capacity is veiy small. The integrity of the batch with respect to composition and history can be maintained easily and the inventoiy management is more precise than with continuous processes. Batch ciystalhzers can be left unattended (overnight) if necessary and this is an important advantage for many small producers. [Pg.1667]

Note that this equation holds for any component in a multi-component mixture. The integral on the right-hand side can only be evaluated if the vapor mole fraction y is known as a function of the mole fraction Xr in the still. Assuming phase equilibrium between liquid and vapor in the still, the vapor mole fraction y x ) is defined by the equilibrium curve. Agitation of the liquid in tire still and low boilup rates tend to improve the validity of this assumption. [Pg.525]

This paper describes work on equipment and instrumentation aimed at a computer-assisted lab-scale resin prep, facility. The approach has been to focus on hardware modules which could be developed and used incrementally on route to system integration. Thus, a primary split of process parameters was made into heat transfer and temperature control, and mass transfer and agitation. In the first of these the paper reports work on a range of temperature measurement, indicators and control units. On the mass transfer side most attention has been on liquid delivery systems with a little work on stirrer drives. Following a general analysis of different pump types the paper describes a programmable micro-computer multi-pump unit and gives results of its use. [Pg.438]

Procedure. A TFP-activated resin was placed in a small reaction vessel to which was added a DMF solution of 2-methylbenzylamine. The reaction mixture was gently agitated for 12 h and filtered. The filtrate was evaporated to dryness and the residue dissolved in CDC13 or other deuterated solvent. The sample was analyzed by NMR. Loading was determined by integration and comparison of the aromatic methyl protons and the Q-methylene protons of the product amide relative to the starting amine. [Pg.163]
