Agglomerates, definition

The entire pore volume of the agglomerate (definitions, see sections 1.5 and 3.1.1.3) is filled with a substance that can transmit forces and thereby causes strength (matrix binder). [Pg.30]

The colloidal particles can be crystalline or constitnte an amorphons agglomeration of individual molecnles. The definition also includes nonaggregated large macromolecules such as proteins. An arbitrary distinction is made between hydrophobic colloids (sols) and hydrophilic colloids (gels), which depends on the degree and type of interaction with the aqneons solvent. [Pg.600]

Note Alternative definitions of aggregate and agglomerate are used in catalysis [2]. The distinction offered by these definitions is in conflict with the distinction understood in the wider context and with the concepts of aggregation and agglomeration. To avoid confusion the definitions proposed here are recommended. [Pg.213]

Modified from [2]. The definition proposed here is recommended for distinguishing agglomeration from aggregation. [Pg.228]

One of the few clay minerals to be identified as definitely having an origin at the sediment-water interface is glauconite, i.e., the green micaceous material which forms pellet-like agglomerates. This has been conclusively demonstrated in recent sediments (Porrenga, 1967b Lamboy,... [Pg.48]

General comments Recent trend has favoured building of pelletization plants due to chemical and physical uniformity of product. However, because of flexibility of sintering process and its ability to treat many different materials without fine grinding, both types of agglomeration appear to have a definite place in future installations ... [Pg.124]
