Concerning anthropogenic sources, methyl arsenic compounds such as methyl arsonic acid and dimethylarsinic acid have been used as herbicides, and were once a significant source of environmental residues. Dimethyl-arsinic acid (Agent Blue) was used as a defoliant during the Vietnam War. [Pg.178]

Another use for arsenic is as a poison, sometimes for good in the cases of pesticides and insecticides and sometimes for bad in the cases of chemical warfare and homicides. As a chemical warfare agent, arsenic s role as a rainbow herbicide is most likely the most horrific. Similar to the well-known Agent Orange, Agent Blue (another rainbow herbicide) was a chemical used in the Vietnam war to destroy plants, serving to both destroy the enemies ... [Pg.195]

CACODYLIC ACID. The common name for dimethylarsinic oxide (C2H7ASO3), a solid that is harmful to animals and plants. The United States used cacodylic acid as a defoliant during the Vietnam War as the active ingredient in Agent Blue. Its use in chemical weapons (CW) may have been considered much earlier, however, in one of the 1855 proposals from Lyon Playfair to the British Admiralty. [Pg.45]
