IBM in California by Eigler and Schweizer (1990), who manipulated individual xenon atoms aeross a niekel (110) crystal surfaee. In the immediate aftermath of this achievement, many other variants of atom manipulation by STM have been published, and DiNardo surveys these. 

This information comes from a quite remarkable book. Crystal Fire The Birth of the Information Age (Riordan and Hoddeson 1997), which maps out systematically but very accessibly the events that led to the discovery of the transistor and the aftermath of that episode. I know of no better aceount of the interloeking sequence of events that led to eventual success, and of the personal characteristics of the principal participants that played such a great part in the story.

In the aftermath of the DDT bans, many bird populations recovered. Robins, bald eagles, ospreys, and peregrine falcons returned to old nesting grounds. The use of other pesticides continued unabated, however. By 1999, American farmers were using one billion pounds of pesticides and herbicides yearly every dollar spent on pesticides seemed to save 4 in crops. 

The preventive procedure relies on putting worm-free animals on a parasite-free or a clean pasture. Clean areas may be new leys or can be provided on permanent pasture by alternating with other livestock species not sharing the same spectrum of parasites, or by use of aftermath after harvesting a hay or silage crop (this procedure is generally difficult to apply under practical farming conditions). 

The face of this continent is hideously scarred and its voice is a bitter snarl. The first half of this century has been a black era most of its years have been years of war, or of open menace, or of painful aftermath. 

Table III presents selected crises of the 20th century, which ended up representing no health dangers ( fake crisis ). Nevertheless, consumer reactions often exhibited panic-like behaviors, threatening an entire industry (e.g., the U.S. apple industry in the case of the Alar apple scare). Depending on what was done by the institutions to limit the scare, the aftermath was either positive or negative for the industry or type of products involved.

This solar energy is the aftermath of nuclear fusion, while nuclear fission occurs in commercial nuclear reactors. Without this energy there would be no life, there would be no fossil fuels or wind or even elements in our world. 

OSHA develops and enforces standards to protect employees from workplace hazards. In the aftermath of the reactive incident that caused the Bhopal tragedy,3 4 5 OSHA was concerned about the possibility of a catastrophe at chemical plants in the United States. Its own investigations in the mid-1980s indicated a need to look beyond existing standards.
