After-school clubs

Beyond the formal curriculum, Kingsley provides lunchtime and after school clubs and activities, including netball, cheerleading, basketball, football and dance. Outside trips and visits are also part of the school s wider curriculum. During one Year 4 lesson we noted discussions about a forthcoming trip to the Natural History Museum as well as to the cinema. [Pg.64]

I like it that it is a coimnunity school - not like xxxx school. They can reject you or they limit you. This school takes everyone - there ate a lot of deaf kids. I like the homework club and after-school clubs. Lots of sports here. I like football and play for the school. 1 always go to xxxx to see football. I m good at music and graphics. 1 would take IT but it takes up two options. I m doing five or six GCSEs Maths, English, Science, Drama, Graphics and Music. My Dad is pushing me to get a full education because if you get an education you can help yourself and help the family back home. Also, my Dad never had an education. [Pg.107]

The duty of care extends to after-school activities and clubs, off-site activities including schools trips and residential activities (see Thomas, Chapter 8) when they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere (DFE/TPCD, 1995, 35.7) and may be 24 hours a day throughout an entire journey. The duty can only be put aside when responsibility is reasonably delegated to others. Additionally, a teacher owes a duty of care where a child is allowed out of school before the end of the day. In the case of Barnes v. Hampshire County Council (1969) it was held that the teacher and the LEA were liable as the child was allowed out of school before her mother arrived and was subsequently injured. The judge considered that an accident of this type was foreseeable, as the teacher knew the time the crossing patrol was available. This reminds us of teachers responsibility for the welfare, upbringing and education of the pupils in their care, in particular, of the need to be constantly mindful for the pupils health and safety. [Pg.9]

This information along with the last date of submitting the entry with the dates of exhibition reaches every school of the country, from States and UTs and from States and UTs to all schools. On information children start working on their projects—static or work in investigatory science projects under the guidance and supervision of the teachers. If a school has a Science Club, it becomes quite active after information under the supervision and guidance of the Science Club. [Pg.4]

Laboratory, and inorganic chemistry was housed in the Old Chemistry Department. If there was a unifying force it was provided by Sidgwick. His synoptic vision, which embraced the main three branches of chemistry, was revealed in his publications, his contributions to colloquia and seminars, and his dominance of both the Alembic Club and the Dyson Perrins tea club. It was rightly said after his death that he was a strict but not severe father of the whole Oxford school of chemistry. [Pg.171]

After a strenuous day listening to representatives of medical schools and medical research institutes in New York City, the members of the Medical Advisory Committee were having dinner together at a club in the city (19). Dr. William B. Castle, Professor of Medicine at Harvard University, began talking about the disease sickle-cell anemia, with which he had had some experience. I had only a mild interest in what he was saying, because at that time cells seemed to me to be far too complex to permit me to make any sort of attack on them. However, when Dr. [Pg.59]
