Advanced placement

Read the Advanced Placement Course Description—Chemistry (also commonly known as the Acorn Book ) produced by Educational Testing Service (ETS) and available from your AP chemistry teacher, testing office, or counseling center or directly from The College Board. 

A. Almost all of the colleges and universities in the United States and Canada, and many in Europe, take part in the AP program. The vast majority of the 2,900 U.S. colleges and universities that receive AP grades grant credit and/or advanced placement. Even colleges that receive only a few AP candidates and may not have specific AP policies are often willing to accommodate AP students who inquire about advanced-placement work. 

To find out about a specific policy for the AP exam(s) you plan to take, write to the college s Director of Admissions. You should receive a written reply telling you how much credit and/or advanced placement you will receive for a given grade on an AP Exam, including any courses you will be allowed to enter.

The key to doing well on the Advanced Placement (AP) Chemistry Exam is to outline a method of attack and not to deviate from this method. We will work with you to make sure you take the best path towards the test. You will need to focus on each step, and this book will serve as a tool to guide your steps. But do not forget—no tool is useful if you do not use it. 

In college, I tried to sign up for an additional advanced math class and the secretary told me that it was closed. When I turned around to leave she said there is an honors section but you wouldn t want that. She assumed that I was not an honors student. But, I was. So, I was able to get in. Things like that accumulate. I know that I am going to encounter racism and I deal with it as best I can. But, I am very concerned when an attitude turns into behavior that can directly impact my fixture. While in college, I discovered that one physics classmate was in the class because of placement. I didn t know anything about advanced placement tests or AP courses. 

Community members in Smithville are at odds about an Advanced Placement English Program in their schools. Should the district implement such a program and why ... 

I would like to suggest ways in which you can use this book in the classroom. An obvious way is that you can use this textbook as just that—a textbook in an elective polymer chemistry course. You could us it as a textbook in an advanced placement chemistry course during those weeks between the AP examination and the end of school. 

Harvey Mudd College (CA) 5 Before advanced placement can be awarded, a student must take the HMC chemistry placement exams and discuss the results with a chemistry faculty member. 

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MA) 0 0 No credit is given for the College Board AP Chemistry test. To receive credit for 12 units of 5.111, Principles of Chemical Science, you must pass the Advanced Placement (Advanced Standing) test administered during freshman orientation. 

McDaniel College (MD) 4-5 Students may receive advanced placement plus up to 8 hours credit. 

Trinity College (CT) 4-5 Students who have secured an advanced placement grade in Chemistry of 4 or 5 may receive one course credit. (This course credit may not be counted toward the chemistry major.)... 

Wabash College (IN) 4-5 Advanced Placement credits earned in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics will NOT fulfill the college laboratory science distribution requirement. 

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (MA) 4-5 Students who pass the advanced placement test in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics B with a 4 or 5 will be awarded 1/3 unit of advanced placement credit. This credit will show on the transcript as L . 

SAT Subject Tests are generally not as difficult as Advanced Placement tests, but they may cover more than is taught in basic high school courses. Students usually take an SAT Subject Test after completing an Advanced Placement course or an Honors course in the subject area. 

If a college to which you are applying requires one or more specific SAT Subject Tests, then of course you must take those particular tests. If the college simply requires that you take a minimum number of SAT Subject Tests, then choose the test or tests for which you think you are best prepared and likely to get the best score. If you have taken an Advanced Placement course or an Honors course in a particular subject and done well in that course, then you should probably consider taking an SAT Subject Test in that subject. 

At least seven Colleges of Pharmacy may exempt BPS-certified specialists from some didactic courses in postbaccalaureate or nontraditional Pharm.D. programs. Other Colleges award advanced placement on an individual case basis and may recognize BPS certification in this process.
