Adipimide

Caprolactam is a thermally unstable compound which on distillation may form methyl-, ethyl-, propyl-, and n-amylamines. Also, at high temperatures, CL reacts widi oxygen to form hydroperoxides which in the presence of iron or cobalt ions are converted into adipimide. /V-alkoxy compounds are also formed by the reaction of CL with aldehydes during storage.

Hartman and Wold (212) have used a bifunctional imido ester, dimethyl adipimidate, as a cross-linking reagent for an enzyme sample containing phosphate ion to protect Lys 41. The monomeric component of the reaction mixture was apparently itself a mixture of species which was not further fractionated. The total fraction had slightly reduced RNA activity but the same Vm and a decreased Km for the activity... 

Popular cross-linkers are glutaraldehyde, dimethyl adipimidate, dimethyl suberimidate, and aliphatic diamines... 

Hydrolyze nylon 6/6 (poly-hexamethylene-adipimide) balls with a diameter of either 3.2 or 6.4 mm (Precision Plastic Ball Co., Chicago, U.S.A., or other suppliers) with 3.5 M HCl for 24 h at room temperature. 

Areas close to binding domains that hold together layers of three subunits react preferentially with the cross-linking reagent dimethyl-adipimidate to form trimers, which are recognized by their electrophoretic mobility on polyacrylamide in SDS (141)- It has not yet been possible to separate active trimers. 

On adding a reagent enzyme with two or more reactive groups to the solution, the protein globules are cross-linked with the formation of a space lattice. The compounds most often used for this purpose are glutaraldehyde (1), hexamethylene diisocyanate (2), adipimidate (3), diazobenzidine-3,3-dianisidine (4), 4,4-diisothiocyanatediphenyl-2,2-disulfonic acid (5), and sym-trichlortriazine (6) ... 

The inner surface of nylon tubing has been activated with dimethylsulphate and then treated with L-lysine. After activation of the derivatized surface with glutaraldehyde or dimethyl adipimidate, neuraminidase was covalently linked to the surface of the tubing. The stability of the active immobilized enzyme was investigated and its potential application for release of neuraminic acid from surfaces of leukaemic AKR mouse thymus and spleen lymphocytes evaluated. 

Poly (hexamethylene adipimide) is also known as Nylon 6,6 since its repeat unit has two six-caibon sequences. Nylon is tough, abrasion resistant, and has a low coefficient of friction, making it a popular suture material. Nylon 6,6 is hydrophilic and absorbs water when placed in tissues or in humid environments (9 to 11 percent water when fully saturated ). Absorbed water acts as a plasticiser, increasing the ductility and reducing the modulus of Nylon 6,6. Nylon bioerodes at a very slow rate. Nylon 6,6 implant in dogs lost 25 percent of its tensile strength after 89 days and 83 percent after 725 days. ...
