If you still prefer to use an acid stop bath instead of water the most widely used formulas call for acetic acid in a 1% to 2% working solution. The only other ingredient sometimes added is a pH indicator dye (Formulas Stop and Hardening Baths Indicator for Stop Baths).

The Linoleic Series, CnH2 3. COOH.—The natural acids are all C18 compounds, and were obtained first from linseed oil They do not occur in human storage fat, but are found mostly as phospho-lipides and as esters of cholesterol. Linoleic acid, the chief member, is an important constituent of vegetable drying oils on which it confers the power of hardening to form a film on exposure to the air. Its formula is C17H31. COOH.
