Acetaldehyde Test Paper

Acetaldehyde Test Paper Use a solution prepared by mixing equal volumes of a 20% solution of morpholine and a 5% solution of sodium nitroferricyanide. Saturate the prepared filter paper in the mixture, and use the moistened paper without drying. [Pg.976]

Procedure The reagent paper is hung in a test tube with the tested solution and the solution is mildly warmed. In the presence of acetaldehyde the paper strip assumes a blue color. [Pg.235]

Experiment 2.—One c.c. of freshly prepared acetaldehyde is shaken for a few minutes in a long glass cylinder provided with a tightly fitting rubber stopper. Half of the liquid is then poured into a little dilute potassium iodide solution and half into two or three volumes of water which is then tested with litmus paper to show the presence of the acetic acid formed. It will be found that the aldehyde which has been dissolved in water hardly liberates any iodine from potassium iodide solution after standing for some time. [Pg.213]

From structure CXCIX, it might be expected that haemanthidine exists in equilibrium with the open chain and hemiacetal forms (CCII, R = H and CCIII, R = H, respectively). It would appear that only a very small amount of CCII (R = H) can be present at any one time, since the alkaloid shows no carbonyl band in the infrared and a normal methylenedioxyphenyl ultraviolet spectrum. Haemanthidine, spotted on paper, gives no secondary amine test with alkaline sodium nitro-prusside and acetaldehyde. However, it seems likely that, under certain... [Pg.372]

Polarographic also can be utilized for the determination of many organic compounds present in the air, e.g. in the vicinity of factories, in the industrial atmosphere, etc. In [23] are listed compounds like formaldehyde, acrolein, acetaldehyde, furfurol, hexachlorbutadiene, and nitro-cyclohexane. The tested air is passed through a trap containing the supporting electrolyte. Application of electrochemical detection in HPLC to the measurement of toxic substances in air is the subject of a paper[24]. Derivatives of phenols and amines were chosen as examples. [Pg.109]
