Strike found this next thing doing an all-nighter Chemical Abstracts search. Strike does not even want to try to explain it. Just read it. If you understand it, great If not, don t sweat it. Hell if Strike will ever try the damn thing [88] (Note the P2Pol production) ... 

The growth in interest in compounds having the Tg core structure can be seen when looking at the number of publications on such compounds. Figure 8 shows publications found from a Chemical Abstracts search for the Tg substructure showing both patent and nonpatent literature. It is clear that both the overall interest and the interest in patented applications have grown rapidly in the last 5-10 years and it is likely to continue as the properties of many new derivatives are explored. 

If you are unsure about abbreviations in your title or abstract, search for keywords and abbreviations in published abstracts using the ACS Journals Search. In this way, you can determine common practices in your target journal.

In addition to abstract searches, SciFinder Scholar allows browsing the table of contents for a group of journals and also citation linking. It should be noted that SciFinder Scholar is not web based but uses the client (local computerj/server (CAS computer) model, where the local library subscribes for such use. Other citations from an American Chemical Society Chemical Abstracts Search (CAS) mention TCPM as a starting product for the manufacture of anthelmintic drugs [4] and anti-ecdysone activity of TCPM, similar to the agrochemical Triarimol [4].

Once fractionation has led to some physical characteristics of the active component, such as UV spectra or putative molecular weight, another literature search can be executed. During the isolation and structure identification of the zaragozic acids (also known as squalestatins) (75), a literature search of the Chemical Abstracts database was carried out within hours of isolating sufficient material to obtain a COSY spectrum, since the two substructures (A and B) were readily identified from these data (see Fig. 12). When the Chemical Abstracts search revealed that no known compounds contained either of these substructures, it was obvious that the compound was novel and therefore patentable. It was several more days before enough NMR and MS experiments had been carried out and an exhaustive structure determination completed, at which point the truly novel 2,8-dioxabicyclo[3.2. l]octane-3,4,5-tricarboxylate core of the zaragozic acids could be searched for in Chemical Abstracts and shown to be unprecedented in the natural product literature.

Name. A solvent may have several names such as common name. Chemical Abstracts name, and name according to lUPAC systematic nomenclature. Common names have been used throughout this book and in the CD-ROM database because they are well understood by potential users. Also, CAS numbers are given in the database to allow user of the database to use the information with Chemical Abstract searches. In the case of commercial solvents which are proprietary mixtures, the commercial name is used. 

When the Registry Numbers of polymers are retrieved in the Registry File using the field Polymer Class Term (PCT) (Sect. 7.1.4.3), a supplementary Basic Index and abstract (search field lA) search should be conducted (Fig. 121).
