Fibulin-1 is an extracellular matrix protein that is present in blood and was first isolated in a complex with fibrinogen, to which it binds with high affinity via the G-terminal end of the B[3 chain (Tran et at, 1995). Fibulin-1 can support platelet adhesion to extracellular matrix under flow conditions via a fibrinogen bridge (Godyna et al., 1996).

Pathak [3] prepared polyalkoxyether hydrogels, (VII) and (VII), that absorbed a substantial portion of water present in whole blood so that when the swollen hydrogel phase was removed a fibrinogen-rich phase was isolated.

The suitability of linker 181 was demonstrated in the synthesis of a fibrinogen antagonist. During each reaction step, the efficiency could be monitored and the purity of the final product could be assessed in a straightforward way [203].
