Sales of top brands in 2005 were down due to safety concern about increased suicidal tendancies in younger children linked to Paxil and Zoloft and increased risk of cardiovascular events (heart attacks) due to COX II inhibitors and withdrawal of Vioxx and added black box warnings imposed by FDA. Medicinal brands with highest sales decrease in 2006 were mainly NCE synthetic products and the loss was due to patent expiry and generic competition.
