Ziziphus mauritiana

Oaks and especially Quercus coccifera are host plants for Kermes ilicis, producing the red kermes pigment. In Asia, the Laccifer lacca insects that grow on trees like Schleichera oleosa, Ziziphus mauritiana, and Butea monsperma are the sources of the red lac dye. - ... [Pg.334]

Singh and Sumbali (2000) demonstrated that mature jujube fruits are a favorable substrate for infection and aflatoxin production by A. flavus strains. Among the mycoflora on the surface of jujube (Ziziphus mauritiana) A. flavus consistently was recorded during the entire period of fruit development. Fifty isolates of A. flavus isolated from the preharvest fruits caused extensive postharvest rot of mature jujube when inoculated. When all of these isolates were also screened for their aflatoxigenic potential in mature jujube, 54% of the isolates tested positive for different aflatoxins (Bi, B2, Gi, and G2) at levels ranging from 31 to 2874 pg/kg. [Pg.45]

The NCI s real purpose in establishing this sort of bioprofiling was to identify a compound that exhibits properties unique among all those in the database. A successful example of the NCI s screening procedure for identifying unique compounds is the identification of betulinic acid (Scheme 6) as a highly selective potential antimelanoma agent isolated from stem bark of Ziziphus mauritiana (56). [Pg.304]

Mauritines, Mauritines A-F, cyclopeptide alkaloids isolated from the root bark of the African trees Ziziphus mauritiana Lam. The mauritines A-F are active against the Gram-positive bacterium Bacillus suhtilis. The stmcture of mauritine A was determined by X-ray crystal analysis. The first total synthesis of mauritine A was per-... [Pg.214]

Of the seven alkaloids isolated from Ziziphus hysodrica, only one is new, namely hysodricanine A (25). In the same publication, an investigation into the bark of Ziziphus mauritiana has included the isolation of the known alkaloids mauritines A—F and G together with the new alkaloid mauritine H (26). Araliorham-nus vaginata was shown to contain a new aralionin-type alkaloid C (27) as well as the previously reported A, B, and desbenzyl-aralionin A compounds. ... [Pg.254]
