Yield singlet state

One characteristic property of dyes is their colour due to absorption from the ground electronic state Sq to the first excited singlet state Sj lying in the visible region. Also typical of a dye is a high absorbing power characterized by a value of the oscillator strength/ (see Equation 2.18) close to 1, and also a value of the fluorescence quantum yield (see Equation 7.135) close to 1. [Pg.359]

Indazole -> benzimidazole photoisomerization involves a singlet state and has been determined to be monomolecular and monophotonic. The UV spectrum of an intermediate with a lifetime of the order of seconds was recorded. Irradiation of the indazole (526) resulted in a 96% yield of the 1-methylbenzimidazole (528) probably via the intermediate (527)... [Pg.160]

N-Aminobenzoxazolin-2-one (4), which was readily prepared by animation of benzoxazolin-2-one with hydroxylamine-O-sulfonic acid, is also a useful nitrene precursor (Scheme 2.2). Oxidation of 4 with lead(iv) acetate in the presence of a conjugated diene resulted in exclusive 1,2-addition of nitrene 5, to yield vinylazir-idine (6) in 71 % yield [6]. The formation of vinylaziridines through 1,2-additions of methoxycarbonylnitrene (2) or amino nitrene 5 contrasts with the claimed 1,4-ad-dition of nitrene itself to butadiene [7]. Since the reaction proceeded stereospecif-ically even at high dilution, the nitrene 5 appears to be generated in a resonance-stabilized singlet state, which is probably the ground state [8]. [Pg.39]

Postulate (i) follows from the fact that when two radicals, produced by whatever means, encounter each other, the interaction of the electron spin of one radical with that on the other radical can give rise to two mutually exclusive spin states, triplet and singlet. Random combination of the two possible electron spin states for the two electrons yields the three components of the triplet state, represented as T+i, To, and T i, and the singlet state, S. Throughout this article, S is assumed to be the singlet state of lowest energy. [Pg.58]

The failure to observe photosubstitution in the presence of a sensitizer in which the latter is the principal absorber, the invariance of product quantum yield with wavelengths shorter than 350 nm (onset of n -> -n absorption), and the observation that chloride and bromide ions (known to catalyze S-+T intersystem crossing) strongly diminish the quantum yields of these reactions, strongly points to the lowest excited ir- n singlet state as the reactive species in these transformations. Excitation into the n->ir absorption band results in little product formation. A triplet state may, however, be involved in the photoamination of nitrobenzene.a41)... [Pg.276]

PHOTOCHEMICAL KINETICS CONCENTRATIONS, RATES, YIELDS, AND QUANTUM YIELDS For a molecule A undergoing light absorption and reaction in its lowest excited singlet state to form a product P, we can write the following hypothetical mechanism, where A and Af are the lowest excited singlet and triplet states, respectively ... [Pg.311]

Many other processes in the Si singlet state are also possible they may compete with fluorescence and affect directly the quantum yield, the lifetime, and the... [Pg.191]
