The term MOF was coined by Professor Omar Yaghi of the University of California, Los Angeles. These types of supramolecular materials have also been called coordination networks or porous coordination polymers (PCPs). The use of the term coordination refers to the type of bond between the organic molecules and the metal ions, which are often referred to as coordination bonds. Materials that ht the description of MOFs were described prior to Professor Yaghi s coining of that particular term, but since then, the use of the term MOF has become the dominant acronym for these materials. [Pg.191]
