Induction of XMEs is an increase in the amount of the enzyme and, as a consequence, an increase in the ability to metabolize one or more xenobiotics. This phenomenon is both widespread and relatively nonspecific. It is critically important in the metabolism of drugs and other xenobiotics and is considered in detail in Chapter 9. [Pg.196]
