Wound dressing, change

Debridement can be accomplished by surgical or mechanical means (wet-to-dry dressing changes). Other effective therapies are hydrotherapy, wound irrigation, and dextranomers. Pressure sores should be cleaned with normal saline. 

The wound environment may be optimally maintained with a product that has the preferred performance parameters but, nevertheless, is disrupted during the dressing change. The hazards of temperature change and secondary infection may be accompanied by a secondary trauma caused by the dressing adhering to the wound and, on removal, stripping newly formed tissue. 

Dressing changes were made and photos were taken daily until all the wounds were healed. 

Do not allow anyone except the HCP to change the wound dressing. 

The bulky wound dressing must be changed twice a day therefore, the nurse must teach the client to change the dressing. A dressing change does not have to be done only by the HCP.
