Colorimetric methods have led to the development of visual devices for measurement of benzene concentration. These visual detection tubes have been popular since the 1960s and have provided a simple and rehable method for evaluating ambient aromatic vapor contamination. The effect of °Co y-ray irradiation on the mechanical properties, surface morphology, and fractography of blends of plasticized PVC and thermoplastic copolyester elastomer, Hytrel (E.I. Du Pont de Nemours Company, Inc., Wilmington, Delaware), have been studied by Thomas et al. [445]. Radiation has two major effects on the blend cross-linking of the Hytrel phase and degradation of PVC phase. Both effects are found more prominent at higher radiation dose.

More than a thousand scientists and engineers use RS/1 at DuPont s Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware. It was particularly attractive to DuPont that the software was available on microcomputers as well as superminicomputers this enabled them to adopt RS/1 as a standard for remote research labs and engineering stations in production plants throughout the Eastern seaboard. 

Raised in Blue Island, Illinois, Schreiber graduated from Wabash College in 1931. He received a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Illinois in 1935, with Ralph Shriner as his adviser. He then joined the Central Research Department of the DuPont Company in Wilmington, Delaware, where he soon became leader of a research group. 

The phthalide used by the submitters and by the checkers was a commercial product, obtained from E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, Wilmington, Delaware. This product is no longer available. Phthalide may be prepared in 82.5 per cent yields by hydrogenation of phthalic anhydride in benzene at 270° under 3000 lb. pressure in the presence of copper chromite 1 or, in yields of 61-71 per cent, from phthalimide according to the procedure given in Org. Syn. 16, 71 Coll. Vol. 2, 1943, 526.
