Wicked questions

The ability to ask wicked questions and use appreciate inquiry helps spur complex conversations, exploration, awareness, and collective mindfulness in an organization. [Pg.216]

The almost universal presence of adenosine 3 , 5 cyclic phosphate (cAMP) as a biologic regulator in microbial and hormone-sensitive animal tissues raises the question of whether this nucleotide might mediate the steroid hormone effect on specific enzyme synthesis. This possibility is made especially attractive because certain enzymes known to be induced by the steroids can also be induced by the cyclic nucleotide. Thus, several enzymes which are induced in the prostate or seminal vesicles by (dihydro) testosterone can also be induced by cAMP (Singhal et al., 1970). Likewise, tyrosine aminotransferase is inducible in embryonic and adult liver by the cyclic nucleotide as well as by the glucocorticoids (Wicks, 1968). [Pg.310]

In concluding this section, mention must be made of a vigorous debate on the question of whether water may or may not be viewed as a mixture of various species. [For detailed elaboration on this question, the reader is referred to Buijs and Choppin (1963), Wall and Hornig (1965), Wicke... [Pg.276]

The capitalistic cormorant has the sulfur question by its neck, and the wicked trust [i.e., monopoly] is simply gorging itself fat on the blood of the consumer. [Pg.203]

The more smoke that rolls back, the less the chance the fire can be fought safely and effectively. The rollback is often hot enough to weaken roof strata and loosen resin-anchored bolts—conditions that make travel under such questionable if not wrong, particularly if the smoke limits visibility. The rollback not only contains heat and smoke, it contains fire gases that can act like a wick, bringing flame from the fire back into firefighters. [Pg.376]
