When Rank Category

Taxa havt different ranks in the system from subforma to reg-num, the speciew is the conceptually most important category. Apart from very rare species only occurring in one place, an extant species consists of a number of populations that can be more or less distinctive. When distribution is spot-wise as in a mountain area or in an archipelago the populations are sharply separated and may show differences when distribution is more continuous, the populations are often not separated and usually grade into the neighbouring ones. [Pg.3]

When the designs were rated in terms of their ability to predict the exposure-MAE relationship, three designs performed the best for three categories of steepness of the exposure-MAE investigated. Figure 29.8 shows examples of the rank order of... [Pg.771]

The contingent ranking method belongs to the Hypothetical/Indirect category. When this method is used, a sample of people are asked to rank situations that differ with respect to the quantity available of the non-market good and the associated payment requirements. WTP estimates can then be inferred firom the ranking (see Smith and Desvousges, 1986, for an... [Pg.126]

Theorem 12.5 can frequently be applied in this situation. When the acyclic category C is graded, one can take any rank selection R. Clearly, the nerve of R is an induced subcomplex of the nerve of C. Furthermore, one can see that any maximal chain of C will intersect f in a maximal chain hence the conditions of Theorem 12.5 are satisfied. We can therefore conclude the following proposition. [Pg.215]
