Thermal Envelope Houses - An architectural design (also known as the double envelope house), sometimes called a "house-within-a-house," that employs a double envelope with a continuous airspace of at least 6 to 12 inches on the north wall, south wall, roof, and floor, achieved by building inner and outer walls, a crawl space or subbasement below the floor, and a shallow attic space below the weather roof. The east and west walls are single, conventional walls. A buffer zone of solar-heated, circulating air warms the inner envelope of the house. The south-facing airspace may double as a sunspace or greenhouse. [Pg.423]

Experimental Holes. The locations of holes HG-l through HG-4 can be seen in Figs. 3.A and C. HG-l and H6-2 go through the full length of the east graphite wail while HG-3 and -HG-4 penetrate the west wall. The first two holes are 8 in. in diameter, the latter two Ain. in diameter through the graphite. [Pg.115]

General Description. The general layout of the canal is shown by Fig. 6.1.A. The main section of the canal is 8 ft wide and extends eastward from the east face of the reactor. The canal section that lies partially beneath the reactor west wall is 6 ft wide. Connecting the above two sections is a 7-ft-wide section through the sub-piie room. The 7-ft width of this section provides ample space for the canal unloading mechanism and storage of the neutron curtain. [Pg.285]

Air Ducts and Plenum Chamber. The underground duct of the reactor cooling-air, system enters the building at the north end of the west wall. This duct connects to a plenum chamber beneath the reactor air system blower... [Pg.348]

Owing to lack of office space on the site, laboratory furnishings for most of the laboratories along the west wall are not provided. This space will be used for offices until such time as an administration building is constructed. [Pg.376]

The Aztec Siltstone is named for a deposit of red and green siltstones that overlie the Beacon Heights Orthoquartzite on Aztec Mountain on the west wall of Beacon Valley, upperTaylor Glacier, in Fig. 10.2. The Aztec Formation also occurs south of the Taylor Glacier on Maya Mountain, Mt. Weller, and Knobhead Mountain in Fig. 10.2. Some maroon-colored siltstone beds contain desiccation polygons and small grayish white carbonate concretions. [Pg.292]

The B6580/81 automatic sprinkler system also sen/es the HCF. Standard spray automatic sprinklers are provided in occupied areas of the basement, including Rooms 100,104,105,106, 107, 111, 112,113,113Aand114. The HCF is equipped with an independent fire-alarm control panel, located against the south end of the west wall of Room 107 that monitors all areas of the HCF. Water that may be released during fires is captured and routed to holding tanks. This capture system is described in Section 2.9.5. Any sprinkler-water flow will activate the TA-V... [Pg.118]

Power to the ventilation system components in the MER is supplied by a conduit entering the MER on the inside of the west wall, routed to a power panel mounted to an internal wall. Power to the fans is supplied by conduit that is routed from the power panel along the walls and the ceiling of the MER. Failure of these conductors would be highly likely in a DBE that caused... [Pg.187]

The second- and fourth-floor walkways were constructed one above another along the west wall of the atrium. The third-floor level walkway was independently suspended from the atrium roof trusses and was built about 13 feet toward the center of the room. The third-floor walkway was not involved in the collapse. The second-floor walkway was suspended from the fourth-floor walkway, which in turn was suspended from the roof framing. [Pg.134]
