Weight changes sulfide

The weight change data indicated that the reaction of Fe with H2S results in a nonstoichiometric compound with the formula FeSi.i. Mossbauer spectroscopic analysis of the samples confirmed this. The compound represents a pyrrhotite, a nonstoichiometric iron sulfide, which is well known in the Fe-S system. State instead of equilibrium one. As a result, the equilibrium phase diagram with two individual poly sulfides is modified to that witli one nonstoichiometric phase, see fig, 3. Therefore, the method of automatically monitoring the weight change with low sensitivity is not suitable for studying phase equilibria in polysulfides systems. 

Both reactions result in a weight change and its magnitude is a measure for the calcium sulfide formed during the regeneration. Unfortunate the ratio between reaction (5) and (6) depends mainly on soibent and reaction conditions, and complete conversion is seldom reached (3). For this reason its is not a reliable method for calculating the selectivity of the regeneration.
