References abound to both Thorpe and Watts Dictionary in Soddy s course notebooks, for example, in his notes for his year of general chemistry studies at University College of Wales, Aberystwyth (Soddy 1894). 

Henry Watts (1815-1884), specialized in chemistry writing. He was editor of the Chemical Society Journal andlater the Society s librarian. Much British written material would be seen by him and appear in successive editions of the eponymous dictionary.
