This review was made possible only through the help of many individuals who provided unpublished reports and critical, but valuable, suggestions during its preparatimi. In particular, I would like to thank Dr. Richard P. Anderson (Argonne National Laboratory), Drs. Robert E. Henry and Hans K. Fauske (Fauske Associates), Dr. Thomas M. Grace (Institute of Paper Chemistry), Dr. Thomas McRae (Lawrence Livermore Natumal Laboratory), and Dr. Walter E. Wahnsiedler (Alcoa). [Pg.203]

Narayana, Norbert Schormann, Craig Smith, Henry Symersky, Mike Teale, and Mark Walter, for helpful discussion. [Pg.199]

Toluene is a clear, flammable, aromatic hydrocarbon liquid with a smell similar to benzene. It is also called methylbenzene, indicating that a methyl group has been added to one of benzenes carbon atoms. Toluene was first isolated by Pierre-Joseph Pelletier (1788—1842) and Philippe Walter (1810—1847) in 1837. The name toluene comes from the South American tree Toluifera balsamum. Henri-Etienne Sainte-Claire Deville (1818—1881) isolated toluene from the tree s gum, Tolu balsam, in 1841. [Pg.283]

Na (g). We have calculated the heat of sublimation of sodium to form the monatomic gas from the vapor pressure-temperature data, taking due account of the appreciable amount of Na2 molecules contained in the actual vapor at equilibrium. The vapor pressure data used are those of Edmonson and Egerton,1-2 Rodebush and Walters,1 Rodebush,2 Rodebush and de Vries,1 Rodebush and Henry,1 Haber and Zisch,1 Ladenberg and Minkowski,1 and Gibhart.1 See also Kroner,1 Hackspill,1 van Laar,9 and Simon and Zeidler.1 Our value for the heat of sublimation, Na (c) = Na (g), is —25.9 at 18°. Sherman1 calculated —25.8. [Pg.367]

Milner s visit, which founded the Canadian Round Table Group — the mother organization of Walter Lockhart Gordon s Canadian Institute of International Affairs — was ultimately successful. Robert Borden, a Milner protege, replaced de Laurier in 1910, and Canada was secured for the Prohibition offensive against the United States. Robert Borden s descendant Henry Borden still sits on the Council of the Canadian Institute of International Affairs. [Pg.173]

I thank Henry Bokuniewicz, Walter Newman, and J. P. Schafer for valuable comments on topics discussed in this chapter. [Pg.35]

It is a pleasure to dedicate this short paper to Professor Henry Eyring, whose versatility and originality in several distinct fields of science are matched only by his gaiety of spirit and dedication to his work. It is not given to many people to write a textbook which should remain standard reading for more than twenty-five years and be completely described by the names of its authors. Yet so well-known is his Quantum Chemistry, written in collaboration with John Walter and George Kimball, that as soon as it was published in 1944 no one bothered about the title it was sufficient to refer simply to Eyring, Walter, and Kimball. ... [Pg.304]

The site had been granted in 1235 by Henry hi to a farrier, one Walter le Brun, for repairing the armour of a Knight Templar wounded, in a tournament, on condition that he annually paid six horseshoes and 61 nails as rent, and in course of time it passed into the hands of the city with the same liability. [Pg.288]
