The Wald-Wolfowitz method tests whether the number of runs is small enough for the null hypothesis of a random distribution of signs to be rejected. [Pg.158]

Runs Test n Also known as the Wald-Wolfowitz test is a nonparametric test used to test for randomness in a sequence. The test sequence must have only two classifications of values, such as hot or cold. The test uses the probability of the number of runs of consecutive same elements within the sequence. If the probability of getting the exact number of runs that occurred in the sequence is either too high or too low the null hypothesis, that the events are random, is rejected. [Pg.994]

Wald-Wolfowitz Test n An alternate name for a runs test. [Pg.1002]
