Viburnum species

D-Allose Is proving to be widespread in plants. -Hydroxy-phenyl 3-D-allopyranoside was Isolated from a Viburnum species,... [Pg.25]

Of the leaves of numerous Hydrangea and Viburnum species tested for tannic substances and flavonoids (quercetin, cyanidin, kaemp-ferol, and luteolin), only those of H. arborescens and a subspecies of H. macrophylla were found to lack tannins and cyanidin but to contain comparable quantities of quercetin and kaempferol. This perhaps can give some indication as to the possible similarity in other constituents. [Pg.370]

Southeast Asia, and about 15 species are distributed in Japan [2], There is a long history of the folk medicinal use of Viburnum species. For example, the dried bark of V. opulus L., which is known as Cramp Bark, is used to alleviate painful menstrual cramps as well as a sedative [3], Native American women took black haw (V. prunifolium L.) to treat the menopause and menstrual cramps [4], The genus Viburnum has been documented to contain a variety of compounds such as iridoids, terpenoids, and aromatic compounds [5,6]. Among the chemical contents of Viburnum species, vibsane-type diterpenoids are considered to be characteristic of the Viburnum species because they have not been fotmd in other higher plants. In this review [7], we focus on the structural diversity, biological activities, and synthesis of vibsane-type diterpenoids, in particular, synthetic studies and neurotrophic activity of neo-vibsanin A and B are emphasized. [Pg.47]

The experiment was run over 10 days. Each morning the number of remaining sticks was counted. Only one of 10 beech sticks was taken after 10 days, while, at the other extreme, no sticks of aspen and striped maple remained after 4 and 5 days, respectively... The genus Viburnum consists of about 150 species of shrubs or small trees that were previously included in the family Caprifoliaceae. However, recent classifications based on molecular phylogeny have put them in the family Adoxaceae [1]. They are distributed in the temperate Northen Hemisphere, with a few species extending into tropical regimis in South America and... [Pg.46]
