Vertical cones

In certain formations, oil recovery can be reduced by coning of either gas downward or water upward to the interval where oil is being produced. Therefore, a need exists for a low-cost injectant that can be used to establish a horizontal pad of low mobility fluid to serve as a vertical barrier between the oil producing zone and the zone where coning is originating. Such low mobility fluid would retard vertical coning of gas or water, thereby improving oil production. [Pg.201]

As volatile levels drop further, yielding very concentrated polymer solutions, the viscosity increases to a level that requires rotary equipment for forward pumping of the solution, which imparts surface renewal and often entraps vapor bubbles, for improved mass and heat transfer as well. There is a wide variety of rotary equipment available, from advanced ribbon devolatilizers, vertical-cone devolatilizers, and disk-ring devolatilizers for moderately viscous solutions, to single and twin screw devolatilizers and thin-film... [Pg.411]

Crushing the rocks is often achieved in two or three stages. The secondary and tertiary crushing machines resemble the machines used during primary crushing. They consist of vertical cone crushers or horizontal cylinder crushers. The former type is the most widespread. [Pg.360]

Weissenberg Rheogoniometer A vertical cone-and-plate rheometer (K. Weissenberg, 1948, and improvers since) for viscoelastic liquids in which the cone can twist through a measured angle while the plate is rotated at speeds providing shear rates to 100 s The cone and plate are enclosed in an oven that provides control of the sample temperature. The plate shaft rests on a ball bearing at its bottom which in turn rests on a force... [Pg.808]

The topography of the cone affects the system s dynamics. Simple classic arguments can rationalize the way topography affects a trajectory Vertical cones facilitate transitions from the upper surface to the lower surface whereas tilted cones are less efficient. Actual quantum mechanical calculations have confirmed these generalizations. " The efficacy of a conical intersection in promoting a nonadiabatic transition reflects the topography in the vicinity of a conical intersection. ... [Pg.93]
