Versions conditional compilation

A particular tool for version control will be outlined later (the RCS, Revision Control System), for the moment we take the opportunity to introduce the conditional compilation facility of a macro processor which is typical of Unix-based systems. 

ISIS databases are hierarchical, so CHIRBASE was designed to incorporate about 60 data fields on several levels of detail (the main fields are listed in Table 4-2). The first level contains the molecular structure of the sample combined to the molecular structure of the CSP, producing a unique location or entry for a specific sample-CSP couple. Consequently, in the current version of CHIRBASE, which contains 40 000 entries, one entry corresponds to the separation of one sample on one CSP and contains in different sublevels a compilation of all the references and the various analytical conditions available for this separation. 

Heat Transfer Correlations for External Condensation. Although the complexity of condensation heat transfer phenomena prevents a rigorous theoretical analysis, an external condensation for some simple situations and geometric configurations has been the subject of a mathematical modeling. The famous pioneering Nusselt theory of film condensation had led to a simple correlation for the determination of a heat transfer coefficient under conditions of gravity-controlled, laminar, wave-free condensation of a pure vapor on a vertical surface (either flat or tube). Modified versions of Nusselt s theory and further empirical studies have produced a list of many correlations, some of which are compiled in Table 17.23. 

Standardization and reliable compilation of a standard database for various series of standard samples are among the important factors to promote interlaboratory data comparison in analytical pyrolysis. Recently, a trial standard database for 136 kinds of typical polymers compiled under the same conditions using Py-GC was publish by the authors, of which a Chinese translation is already available, and an English version is now in preparation.
