Ventilated silos

Ventilated silos or bins. Cold or slightly heated air is blown through the grain in the silo. This can be a slow process, especially in damp weather (extraction rate 0.33-1% per day). 

Agricultural pesticide handlers use some pesticides in enclosed areas such as greenhouses, silos, and bams. The use of pesticides in such areas increases the risk of inhalation exposure and may require the use of a respiratory protection device even if the identical application outdoors would not warrant such protection. The likelihood of increased potential for heat stress due to the enclosure is dependent on the effectiveness of the ventilation system. 

Examples of confined spaces are storage tanks, tank cars, pressure vessels, boilers, bins, silos, and similar enclosures that have access through a manhole or door. Confined spaces may be open pits, vaults, and vessels with limited ventilation, as well as underground utility mnnels, storm sewers, pipelines, septic tanks, and similar containers. Some partial enclosures, such as a railroad boxcars, are confined spaces. 

Previously the cement was delivered to the silos at 120°C. On closed circuit this temperature has fallen to about 75/80 °C. This is due to the cooling effect of the separator, with ambient air as well as air from the mill ventilation. 

Venting The term venting is popularly associated with pressure relief systems and devices, which are installed on enclosed conveyors (pneumatic, air gravity, screw etc.) and silos to prevent pressure buildup and potential explosions. However, sometimes dust is directly vented to either the atmosphere or to a ducting system with or without dilution with air. In this case venting may be classified as a method for non-fugitive dust control by ventilation or Di-Pution.
