These particular miners share an affinity that may be idiosyncratic, but they demonstrate that individuals can use gesture to communicate, interpret, and create meaning. Analysis of gesture thus allows us to see how speakers use gesture to explore, query, and co-construct meaning—collaboratively and individually—as they work to interpret meanings embodied in gesture
