DTPA and Sc-EDTA), when injected intravenously, are excreted mainly in the urine after transient accumulation in kidney, and have whole-body half-times of several hours. Lanthanides injected intravenously as chlorides are taken up by liver, spleen, and bone, and have protracted whole-body half-times thus the extent of excretion is low (Venugopal and Luckey 1978, Hirano and Su2uki 1996).
