University of St. Andrews

Andrews was the only Scottish University to strongly champion the admission of women. As S. Sloan commented in the pages of The Girl s Realm  

Not only did St. Andrews University early open its doors to women, it has treated them royally ever since and today [1911] it holds the unique position of being the one college in which men and women students stand upon an absolute equality.. .. There are those who have shaken their heads over a Senate which thus decrees that Jill shall enter into the full college life enjoyed by Jack but time has proved it wise in its generation, and the University of St. Andrews is justified of 

Nevertheless, it did not mean that women students were necessarily welcomed by the male contingent, according to a complaint in the St. Andrews University Magazine of 1890  

Principal of the University in 1921 nevertheless, researchers worked with him until 1935.
