Figure 1 shows three configurations for colliding-beam experiments that have been used for studies of dissociative recombination. These are the inclined-beam apparatus at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne,30 the merged-electron—ion-beam experiment (MEIBE) at the University of Western Ontario,31 and an electron-cooler apparatus at the Manne Siegbahn laboratory in Stockholm.32 In the inclined-beam method (Figure la), the ion beam is accelerated to an energy of 30... [Pg.56]

Special thanks to our colleagues at the Department of Chemistry, the University of Newcastle, for taking over MM s teaching and more importantly, his share of administration while on sabbatical leave, sweating over this book. Thanks also to Jenny Helman and Gudrun Ludescher for the incredible effort of proof reading a text without understanding the content. They deserve a warm thank-you from us and also from every reader. [Pg.338]

Elsaadi, M. S. Ileal transfer to thin film liquids on closed rotating discs systems. M.Phil. thesis, (University of Newcastle upon Tyne, U.K. 1992). [Pg.1136]

Improvements in solid polymer electrolyte materials have extended the operating temperatures of direct methanol PEFCs from 60 C to almost 100 C. Electrocatalyst developments have focused on materials that have higher intrinsic activity. Researchers at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne have reported over 200 mA/cm at 0.3 V at 80 C with platinum/ruthenium electrodes having platinum loading of 3.0 mg/cm. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the U.S. has reported over 100 mA/cm at 0.4 V at 60 C with platinum loading of 0.5 mg/cm. Recent work at Johnson Matthey has clearly shown that platinum/ruthenium materials possess substantially higher intrinsic activity than platinum alone (45). [Pg.90]
