Uniform glossaries

To assure a uniform picture of morphological changes induced by a testing material it is recommended to develop a glossary for morphological deviations from the normal. Therefore, the need for uniform glossaries is underlined again. 

Wherever possible, official definitions of IUPAC, ISO and other international organizations have been used, in particular in the Glossary of Analytical Terms compiled at the end of the book. However, uniformity could not be achieved in every case. In a few instances, special comments and proposals (characterized as such) have been added. Although progress in the field of harmonization of nomenclature and definitions has been considerable, some things still remain to be done.

The paper also includes a brief section on credentialing of pharmacy supportive personnel. It concludes with two appendices. Appendix A contains a comprehensive glossary of key terms relating to pharmacist credentialing. Appendix B is an alphabetical list of organizations involved in pharmacist credentialing and program accreditation. The list contains names, addresses, and uniform resource locators (URLs). 

The long-term goal of these recommendations is the design and implementation of a uniform and harmonized system that will ensure procurement of pharmaceutical products of defined quality for supply to patients, based on a mutually recognized process of prequalification of products and manufacturers by means of product dossier evaluation and inspection of manufacturing sites. Such a process, as defined in the Glossary and described in Module II, will hereafter be referred to as prequalification. 

We have adopted a uniform set of notation throughout the textbook. This notation has been defined within the body of the book and also summarized in two glossaries in the Appendix.
