Unexpected side effects

Consistent production of a defined product that would thus be less likely to cause unexpected side effects. [Pg.400]

When single micronutrients are applied for prevention or even intervention in diseases of organs or tissues, they are usually administered in higher doses for a longer period of time. The hope is to accumulate it this way sufficiently in the tissue and to thus be able to ensure the therapeutic success. This procedure, however, leads to a flooding of the whole organism with micronutrients and their potential enrichment in tissues which would usually not accumulate the respective micronutrient. Thus, unexpected side effects may occur. [Pg.180]

Several studies have reported the efficacy of p-blockers in the treatment of performance anxiety. Taken within 2 hours of a stressful event (e.g., an examination, a speech, or a concert), propranolol, 20-80 mg, may improve performance. A trial dose of 40 mg of propranolol should be administered before the performance situation in which the patient anticipates anxiety. This initial dose should not be taken in a high-risk or critical situation in which any unexpected side effect could have serious consequences. Subsequently, doses of... [Pg.84]

Nobody takes responsibility for the unexpected side-effects of technology no one has to account for their actions, pay compensation or suffer punishment when it is suddenly discovered that refrigerants have caused a hole in the ozone layer or that fire retardants are present in human breast milk and may be affecting the development of our children. There is a lack of responsibility as accountability. [Pg.142]

Another interesting aspect of the low-temperature procedure must be borne in mind if the different types of forces act so as to counterbalance one another, changes in solvent composition and temperature would lead to new favorable or unwanted separation patterns. In such cases, besides the practical interest of the procedure for protein fractionation, a better understanding of the types of forces involved in protein association, and their relative contributions, could result from systematic studies of unexpected side effects. This could make them the basis for new separation procedures. [Pg.184]
