Uncaria elliptica

In the oxindole group, formosanine and mitraphylline have been isolated from the bark of Uncaria elliptica R.B. ex G. Dm.,61a and rumberine (10-hydr-oxyisopteropodine) and palmirine (10-methoxyisopteropodine) from the aerial parts of Hamelia patens Jacq.616 Rauvoxinine has been reported14" to be present in the leaves of R. psychotrioides, but the identification rests mainly on its mass spectrum. 

Roxburghine D and a hitherto unknown stereoisomer, roxburghine X, have been isolated from Uncaria elliptica as yet, nothing is known about its stereochemistry. 

Ajmalicine (80) was found to occur in Uncaria elliptica (72,73) and Petchia ceylanica (74), whereas its 10,11-dimethoxy derivative, reserpiline (81), and the C-20 epimer of 81, isoreserpiline (82), have been isolated from Neiososperma oppositifolia (75,76). The structural diversity has been found in many other species of Uncaria including U. elliptica (44 compounds), U. attemata (34 compounds), and U. rhynchophylla (33 compounds). The chemical diversity of these species is as complex as U. tomentosa. For instance, U. elliptica possesses several ajmalicinine derivatives, corynoxines, rauniticines, and D-secoalkaloids. In addition to the compounds present in U. tomentosa, U. elliptica also possesses uncarinic acids and uncaric acids.
