Ultra-short-acting compound

Pharmacokinetic properties Remifentanil is an ultra-short acting compound (Michelsen and Hug, 1996), rapidly inactivated by plasma and tissue esterases. The terminal elimination half-life is 10-20 min.

Thiopental Sodium, USP. Thiopental. sodium, sodium S-ethyl-S-(l-methylbutyl)-2-lhiobarbilurale (Pentothal Sodium). is the mo.st widely u.sed ultra-short-acting anc.sthctic barbiturate. Additionally, the compound is the prototype for the ultra-short-acting barbiturates. Most discussions of how structure influences duration of action in this group of agents relate specifically to it. The compound s onset of action is about equal to the time required for it to travel to the brain from the site of administration. Consciousness is regained within 30 minutes. 

The impurity present in the drug landiolol, an ultra-short-acting p-blocker, has been established by Stujber et al by the extensive use of NMR and mass spectroscopy as being [(45 )-2,2-dimethyl-l,3-dioxolan-4-yl]methyl 3- 4-[(25 )-2-hydro>y-3-(3- 4-[(25 )-2-hydroxy-3-[(2- [(morpholin-4-yl)carbonyl]amino ethyl)amino]propoxy]phenyl -JV-(2- [(morpholin-4-yl)-carbonyl]amino ethyl)propanamido)propoxy]phenyl propanoate. The authors have found that the compound exists in two rotameric forms at room temperature for both of them and C NMR data have been reported including proton-proton couplings across two and three bonds.
