Dry Method. The cascadograph consists of a stack of sieves of the same nominal aperture size in a shaking device (a Tyler Ro-Tap sieve shaker). Each stack consists of twenty 8 in diameter sieves specially made by the Newark Wire Cloth Company Newark sieve cloth is claimed to have very uniformly sized apertures and a low tendency to blind. ... 

Satisfactory results were obtained within five minutes of tapping. The authors claim that such short times of rapid den-si fication of the sample were possible because of the unique combination of the tap and the transverse motion of the Tyler Ro-Tap device they also tested a vibrational device (PM 25 B) as an alternative for mechanical tapping but found it not satisfactory in that the tap density values it gave were lower than those obtained with the Ro-Tap machine.
